How Much Does a Commercial Boiler Replacement Cost
The cost of replacing a commercial boiler will vary greatly, depending on the size and type of the boiler, the complexity of the installation, the specific requirements of the project and any other work that may need to be carried out in order to facilitate the new installation.
Below we outline the various factors that will have affect the cost of the installation and give you a brief formula at the end in order to workout roughly what your commercial boiler replacement wil likely cost.
Size:
the larger your building is the larger and more powerful your boiler will need to be to keep it warm. This is genrally measured in kW output or BTU’s. The larger the output of the boiler then the more it is going to cost. However, it’s not just the boiler as all the associated equipment needs to be larger too such as pipework, pumps, valves etc.
Location and flue routes:
The location and space constraints of you plantroom can significantly influence the cost of your commercial boiler replacement. For example; if a plantroom is in a basement, the only available flue route could be via an existing chimney. This means the installer will need to line the chinmey with a stainless steel flue liner as well as provide scaffolding to gain access to the chimney. On the other end of the spectrum a new boiler could be on the ground floor fixed to an external wall. In this case the flue would just go through the wall and terminate and can be fitted from a step ladder.
Controls:
Controls can make a huge difference to the cost of your commercial boiler replacement. In some instances the existing control system may be fine to reuse and the new boiler can connect straight back on to them. If the installation does require new controls then options range from a simple time clock and thermostat for time and temperature control to a full BMS system.
Associated Works:
As mentioned earlier its often not just the boiler that will need replacing but there will be other items due for replacement such as pumps, flues, valves etc that may have also come to the end of their useful life. Alterations to pipework etc may also need to be made to accomodate the new boilers.
There are also new regulations coming in all the time and so whilst your installation was compliant when it was installed it no longer meets the requirements of a new boiler. Additional ventilation, new lighting and gas safety measures may need to be put in place for your engineer to be able to sign off a new installation.
Thirdly, other complications can arise when replacing a boiler such as finding asbestos in the plantroom as well as builders work like repairing a roof where an existing flue has been replaced. Sometimes its just a good opportunity to spruce up the plantroom a bit by levelling the floor and painting the walls.
Conclusion:
Now you have a brief understanding of the many variables that can affect the cost of your boiler replacement you can see why it is always necessary for installers to visit and survey a site before providing a quotation to replace the boilers. This is to establish the clients requirements and check that what they are proposing will work with the building and existing system.
To estimate how much your installation is going to cost we have a formula that will give you an ideal of the ball park cost. It is important to note that this does not include for refurbishing the whole plantroom and fancy controls systems but is for replacing just the boilers alone.
Ac Commercial boiler replacement will cost between £200-£250 per kW output. For example if you are installing a new commercial boiler with an output of 80kW then it is likely to cost between £16,000 and £20,000. Controls and other associated works would then be in addition to this.
